WebNov 17, 2013 · I bought the painless wiring harness for the ford duraspark II ignition and hooked it up like the diagram shows and the ballast resistor started smoking real bad with key on. I pulled the resistor off and plugged in a jumper wire and it fired right up. Was this just a bad ballast resistor?
